My name is Jayson Combs and I am the youth pastor here at Faith.  The Lord called me into ministry 7 years ago to work with youth.  I love working with students and I look forward to many more years of teaching and loving on youth.  So far….no calling for being a Senior Pastor, a Small Group Pastor, or anything like that!

I also want to introduce you to my wonderful wife, Laura.  We’ve been married for almost 4 years, and I don’t know how I ran the ministry without her and her support!  Her passion for youth has made such in impact in the youth group.  Laura holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Taylor University (IN), and she currently teaches elementary music at Hamlin Elementary in the Rochester Community School District. 

I, on the other hand, came right out of high school working with youth.  I worked at Faith as an intern for two and a half years with junior high students.  During that time I attended William Tyndale College, where I graduated with a Major in Youth Studies and a Minor in Pastoral Studies in December of 2004.

My desire for youth ministry is threefold.  1) I desire to connect students to Christ who currently have nothing to do with Him.  I call these students watchers.  They sit on the outside, watching the church and what goes on.  2) I desire for students who already come to church, the riders, to see who Christ really is and challenge them to grow more and more.  3) I desire to help students who already love Christ to reach out to their friends and peers.  These students, called drivers, are taking a stand in their church and community.  The drivers are honestly much better at reaching the watchers than probably I am.  They lead the small groups and have their own ministry by leading their friends to Christ.  

Other than that, I am a huge people person.  I’d rather be with people than sitting behind a desk.  I also run a lunch program at Waterford Kettering High School, and am the Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Kettering.  These are additional ways that I can hang out with Students.
